Wednesday 9th March 2011~ National No Smoking Day

Every year we are encouraged to quit smoking with 'National No Smoking Day' to focus our attention on quitting this habit.
So what drives us to continue smoking?
Every smoker is fully aware of the health risks to themselves and others; the rising costs of cigarettes and tobacco to fund the habit; the effect smoking has on the environment they smoke in ~ ie., cigarette smell in furniture, clothing, the breath, stained fingers and discoloration of teeth etc., . . . . . . and because of this awareness, nearly every smoker has spent times when they've planned quitting, set dates to quit, maybe stopped for a short period . . . . and then gone back onto smoking again.
As with any habit or addiction, however you like to think of it, it's not all about the cigarette!
As a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, the majority of smoking clients that I see, find it calms them down, helping them unwind and relax after a stressful day, it might be a social thing for them ~ feeling part of a group of others who smoke too (partners/friends/colleagues), or they might enjoy the ritual side of rolling their own!
However you look at it, you also need to be fully aware of the 'downside' of smoking, the long term health effects it has on the lungs, throat and body. Their are more positive, healthy ways of relaxing and de-stressing, such as learning deep breathing techniques, yoga, tai chi, exercising or meditation to anme but a few.
So if you've started your year with a resolution to stop smoking this year, then their is no time like the present! Waiting until tomorrow, or next week, or after the next special event just prolongs the point. Support and help for stopping smoking can be found on www.nosmokingday.org.uk and www.smokefree.nhs.uk where many helpful tips and advice can be found, then the rest is down to you! Alongside these support networks you might like to consider the benefits of Hypnotherapy techniques, which can help to reduce the cravings and lessen the withdrawal symptoms, making it an easier journey for you to make!

Mind over matter with food and weight

Do you sometimes wake up having "a feeling fat day!" ?
What happens to you that day?
Do you find yourself feeling down, a little depressed, thinking everything you wear just "makes you feel fatter", do you find yourself eating more, running yourself down more, do you notice all the slimmer healthier people around you????

If you've answered yes to any of the above, then next time you feel that way, just say "STOP!" and think what do I want to feel instead? When you change your mind set to a more positive view, you will have a better day and feel much better about yourself.

Take the weight off your mind and start focusing on what your goals and outcomes are around your shape and weight, make them positive and acheiveable ~ this is the first step you need to take to begin to believe in yourself and lose the weight which is on your mind.

A 6 week programme with SlimQuest will help you to begin this journey towards changing your mind and changing your weight in a supportive way. What you find is that as your weight changes in a positive way, then so too does your energy levels and your confidence.
So how would that be . . . ?
To look good. . . feel good . . . and have more energy?

Look forward to hearing from you soon,

Best wishes
Lori

Recommended Read for Conquering Fear . . . . .

Well if you haven't as yet had the pleasure of reading this little gem, then I would highly recommend this book to everyone really!

We all have times in our lives when things can get on top of us ~ we maybe highly successful in one part of our lives and then be apprehensive and unsure in another area. This is quite common and it's taking our strengths that drive us towards success and using those resources and beliefs in the other areas which need some TLC.
The book which I recommend to all is "Feel the Fear and do it Anyway" by Susan Jefferies. She has a unique way of making something that can seem quite scary to appear easy to do, and the more you challenge yourself through following her tasks, then the easier you will find things getting, the less fearful you will be and the more you'll look forwards to feeling comfortable in your self in all areas of your life.

Let me know what you think about this book & whether it has changed how you see things in a positive way. . . . . Go onto Amazon via the link to start your journey forwards. www.amazon.co.uk

Best wishes,
Lori

Whats Your Paunch Type Gentleman?

An excellent article in the Times Body and Soul supplement on Saturday the 15th of May 2010 by a Doctor John Briffas who insists you lose the paunch. He describes how fat on the outside ( the paunch) presents real health risks as it is what the fat is doing on the inside called visceral fat that presents the greater risk than looking out of shape! Visceral fat reaches round your internal organs which can lead to chronic health problems. Dr Briffas recommends a low carb diet to decrease the waist line increase energy and feelings of well being so which paunch type are you? The pod? The button buster? The when-are-you due? Or the blob? With hypnosis it makes the process of realigning your eating habits so much easier with some well defined goals and outcomes and a plan of action you could soon say goodbye to the paunch and hello to your toes!!
